When the United States officially entered WWI in April 1917, the U.S. military had no combat-ready aircraft and had to purchase fighter planes from France. Flying the newly developed French-made SPAD XIII fighter, American pilots quickly integrated propeller-synchronized Vickers dual machine guns. The combination of rapid-fire guns with the high-performing SPAD aircraft was a significant factor leading to an Allied victory.
Inspired by SPAD XIII's wartime contribution coupled with the legionary heroism of WWI fighter aces like Eddie Rickenbacker, Rustic Deco is pleased to offer a miniature Spad-styled fighter figurine. Like the original SPAD XIII, Rustic Deco's version is a single-seat single-engine biplane.
Though the SPAD miniature cannot glide at 220 MPH like the full-sized original, it does have other excellent desktop features. For example, other than the steel nuts and bolts, the entire plane is constructed of solid cast iron. Moreover, the Rustic Deco version bolsters an amazing finish that emulates antique blackened brass with an oxidized-textured surface. This combination of well-aged tone and texture gives this figurine a uniquely handsome and classy aesthetic.
These miniature biplane fighters make great gifts for aviation and military-history enthusiasts or anyone looking to add a touch of class to their desk or shelf.
